For more than 20 years I have been designing audio equipment in the high-end market. I would like to think that my musical background has tempered my Electronic Engineering degree in the success of these products. Today I would like to take what I have learned in making Audio amplifiers and apply them to the Guitar world. So for the last year I have made some prototypes of amplifiers and had some players test them out and here is what we found to be the best!
As I have found in audio, Single Ended Amplifiers are far more musical than their Push Pull counterparts. Therefore all of the amplifiers here will be based on Single Ended Topology. Even better, all of these amplifiers will be used with Directly Heated Triodes. These power output tubes pack more output than their pentode friends usually by a factor of 4x or more.

Studio Combo The studio series combo amplifier is unlike any guitar amplifier made today. All of the parts used in the design are the best available. From hand wound output and power transformers by MagneQuest to specialized capacitors such as Black Gate and Hovland. The design uses a single 12DW7A using the 12AX7 half to handle the preamplification. The gain is handled by a single EF86 and the other half of the 12DW7 (12AU7) is used to drive a single WE300B for the output power tube. The power supply is tube rectified by a 5AR4/GZ34. This amplifier is capable of producing 10Ws of power driving a single Celestion Blue Alnico 12" speaker (also available is the Celestion Century, no extra charge). The studio amplifier has the standard tone stack including, bass, mid and treble controls along with the volume control. On the back of the amplifier, there are outputs for an auxiliary 8 ohm speaker and either headphone or line output. Stage Combo Again using the WE300B to drive a pair of Celestion Century Speakers to full output. This combo is set for the Stage! Yes only 10W's of power and a full tone stack this amplifier based on the Studio design also has a transformer coupled XLR output that can plug directly into the sound system. No need for external miking but preserves the sound of the amplifier because it too is driven by the output tube. At one watt this amplifier puts out 109dB at 3m. At full output the amplifier will put out over 118dB at 3M. The most fun about this amplifier is when you tell your band mates that it only puts out 10W's. Jaws will drop! Solo Combo The Solo is available in three configurations, dual preamp (ch1: vol, bass, treble ch2: vol, tone), vibrato or reverb. The Solo uses what is called parallel-feed output transformer technology. To my knowledge this is the only Guitar Amplifier on the market using this technology. Take the link to find out more... As with all my products the Solo uses a power supply with tube rectification. In this case the Solo uses the EZ80/6V4. All versions of the Solo use the 6B4G directly heated triode output tube. Two tube configurations are used: Dual input, dual tone stack (1: Bass, Treble, Volume 2: Tone, Volume) uses a 12AX7 (one for each input) this drives a 7199 pentode section and the triode section drives the output tube. ($3500) In the alternate mode of either Reverb or Vibrato, the tube complement is one 12AX7, one 12AU7 and an EF86. ($3750) Even though this has only 5W's of power it sounds as loud as amplifier that are 4x the power. Call and I will tell you why! The Solo can also be made into several classic combo's, if you can think it you can make it.
